Alex: Comfortable shoes?
Nathaniel: Check.
Alex: Tickets?
Nathaniel: Tickets? We don't need no stinkin' tickets.
Alex: Right. Check. Bag for the carrying of things?
Nathaniel: Check.
Alex: Books to be signed by people?
Nathaniel: Meh.
Alex: :sigh: Check. Stupid amounts of money to buy things to put into said bag?
Nathaniel: Sure. :cough:Dork:cough:
Alex: Giant broadsword for vanquishing--hey, wait a second. What did I tell you about broadswords at conventions? Put that back in the closet.
Nathaniel: :grumble:Stupid comics people:grumble:So uptight...

Sorry folks...you'll have to excuse the clutter for today, but Exfanding Headquarters has morphed into Con-Prep Central as Nathaniel and I get ready for New York Comic Con tomorrow.
Yep, you read that right: The entire Exfanding Your Horizons crew is going to a convention, marking a new milestone in the history of the blog.
And, despite the fact that Nathaniel is thinking of NYCC as nothing more than a weekend excursion, the con will in fact be the biggest show either of us has ever gone to. (While I have no idea whether that statement holds true in Nathaniel's case, I'm gonna run with it.)
Mostly because I can. (Plus, he's too busy trying to sneak that broadsword into my trunk to even bother reading this post. But I see him. I'm onto him.)
NYCC 2010 will certainly be the biggest con I've ever been to, and that includes the inaugural New York show some five years ago, now. From what I've read online, and from what I've heard from people who went last year and even the year before, the difference between that first show and this year's will be staggering.
I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of stuff to do at the con, honestly, but I'm sure I'll manage to not do anything I'm planning on doing. So at least there's that. I've spent the past week trying to figure out who the guests will be, who I'd like to meet, what panels I'd like to attend, and what thing s I'd like to buy.
So far, I haven't come up with very much, other than that I want to get there early.
I do know that I want to spend a lot of time trolling around Artist Alley, checking out all the big names and not-so-big names offering up their wares. At the top of that list are Neal Adams, Mahmud Asrar, and Rebekah Isaacs. I'd also love to snag a couple of new books that are available for the first time at the show, like Chandra Free's The God Machine.
Beyond that, though, as always I'll be on the lookout for Goon stuff, for new original art to add to my collection, and for interesting comics that I've never seen in stores. Oh! And I have to remember to take photo/video of the show--I always mean to, but never do so at cons.
So wish us luck, and be sure to check in next week for our Official Exfanding NYCC 2010 Recap. Because it'll be good.
