Things are still crazy busy at the day job, so a quick hello today, plus a teaser of the cover to the book that I am currently scripting. Well, actually, it's the preliminary design of the cover, as well as the inked piece, but the final, colored version won't be ready to go for a couple of weeks.
As I mentioned previously, the artist's name is J.C. Grande, and I really love the way he does "big super hero fight." I think his art somehow manages to be old school while still maintaining a very hip, modern look.
Anyway, I thought it'd be cool to post the progress of the cover, through each step to the final, ready-for-print piece. So today I'll share the design layout and the cover prelim, followed by the inked version. As a bonus, I've also included a color pin-up of my main character.
Below is the layout for the cover, just a rough sketch of who will be on the piece, and what they'll be doing.
And here's the cover prelim, in pencil, with more developed figures and poses.
Followed by the tightly penciled, and inked version of the cover.
And, finally, here's one of the pin-ups we're using as a promotional image for the series.
The script for issue one is nearly complete. It just went through a final round of edits, and other than a few surface changes, it's good to go. I'll be able to talk a bit more about the series, and the plot, and the characters, in a couple of weeks, and I am really looking forward to seeing the book progress.
This series wasn't actually the story I initially pitched, but after I felt like my first pitch was rather weak and uninteresting, the idea for this book came all at once. It's about super heroes, and government conspiracies, and small personal dramas involving all of the characters.
I like the idea because it allows me to have a world with super heroes, but because it has a very "real life" feel to it, I don't have to be bogged down with the typical tropes of the genre. And that's fun.
So, I look forward to sharing some more of this book (and hopefully one or two more that I plan to pitch), and once the release date gets closer, I will certainly fill you all in on it.
Anyway, Happy Friday everyone, and enjoy the weekend!
